While I can understand its importance, it's used by less then 500 userpages! I guess sockpuppetry isn't that Common! 68.39.174.238 08:11, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

Evidence link doesn't work[edit]
{{Editprotected}} The evidence link doesn't work. It would appear that autotranslate isn't passing the evidence parameter properly. I'm not sure why not. Could someone look into this? —/Mendaliv/2¢/Δ's/ 02:20, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
- Fixed. Thank you for your report. Kwj2772 (msg) 04:26, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
Add Special:Log to the default evidence[edit]
If nobody objects, I’m going to replace the default “refer to contributions for evidence” with “refer to contributions and log for evidence” across all localizations. An example of Sockpuppets of Poundsdwayne shows that Special:Log provides much more clues on sock puppeteering than Special:Contribs. Here is no Wikipedia. Incnis Mrsi (talk) 10:26, 10 February 2018 (UTC)
Or IMHO “refer to logs and contribs for evidence” is even better. If Special:Log is non-empty, one can jump to Special:Contribs rather directly. For the reverse, the necessary link can be found only on the left navigation bar where it is not very prominent. Moreover, “contributions” is a misleading term inherited from the times there was no really MediaWiki; uploads are contributions too, esp. on Commons. The “contribs” contraction (which is used everywhere in uselang=en) will clarify that this is the list of edits only, not contributions of any other kind. Guanaco's changes[edit]
They actually make a lot of sense, seeing which sockpuppets 🎭 are the latest is a way better way of seeing how a user is sockpuppeteering than organising them alphabetically. --Donald Trung (Talk 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 22:45, 10 February 2018 (UTC)
- Except it doesn't actually do that. It sorts them by when the tagged page was last edited. Keeping the categories sorted by name makes it easier to spot patterns and to see if a given user is listed in a given category. It's also a generally bad idea to sort items by a property that isn't displayed. —LX (talk, contribs) 09:43, 11 February 2018 (UTC)
Tagging suspected accounts prior to blocking[edit]
There has been a practice or at the least what I have seen, non-admins tagging suspected socks with {{Sock}} prior to the account having been blocked. Our COM:Sockpuppetry redirects to en-wiki, where there appears a chronological guide at en:SOCKTAG that tags should be placed after the block has been issued. My belief is that no tagging should happen prior to the block. Tags should follow blocks and not otherwise. I am just fine with non-admins helping place the sock-tags however only after the sockpuppet has been blocked. I invite input from the wider community. - just saying...
- history of COM:Sockpuppetry has:
- 03:12, 9 January 2015 Magog the Ogre talk contribs 41 bytes +41 soft redirect until an essay is written on meta
- so it should actually point to https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Sock_puppetry . RZuo (talk) 15:48, 18 March 2024 (UTC)
- I agree; I too would oppose placing {{Sock}} on non-confirmed socks (unless it can obviously be proved by w:WP:DUCK). --SHB2000 (talk) 12:06, 19 March 2024 (UTC)
- The template uses the term "suspected sockpuppet", so it seems clear to me that it is explicitly intended to be used for accounts that are non-confirmed socks. The template's Status parameter can later be added to adjust the wording for users that are confirmed socks. Marbletan (talk) 12:22, 19 March 2024 (UTC)
- FYI I've updated the redirect to meta. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 13:09, 22 March 2024 (UTC)
