Description
English: "True Heart Susie" is a 1919 silent film directed by D.W. Griffith starring Lillian Gish. The film tells the story of Susie, a small-town girl who has been in love with her neighbor, William, since childhood. When William goes away to college, Susie works hard to save money for his education. However, when William returns, he is more interested in a city girl than Susie. Despite her heartbreak, Susie helps William and his new lover get married and then quietly fades into the background. Years later, William realizes the mistake he made and tries to reconnect with Susie, but it is too late. The film is notable for its sympathetic portrayal of a female character and its exploration of unrequited love. It was well received by audiences and critics alike and is considered one of Griffith's most emotionally affecting films.
